Filming of 'Footloose' at the Ragland
#31
Jesse will pop by this afternoon so I can discuss the price with him, but I feel $8 is fair. I am having the usual difficulties with tape and I will be gone from the 18th to the 23rd, but I will get the editing done before the month is out. I believe that, once we get this project on DVDs for the cast and crew, people will have a better understanding of what we do. Wayne, have you told them about our website? That would be useful, too, so people can see what we have done, are getting done, and what we have for the future.

I do have one concern, though, and that is about burning the discs. Because the show is over two hours, I have to use dual-layered discs because one layer can only hold two hours. My lappy cannot burn dual-layered discs, so I will need to get either my parents' dual-layer burner or borrow one from someone in the group. I also need dual-layered discs but I do not know how I will get them because I am broke.

Would these do (or a Freddie's equivalent)? I can purchase them & be reimbursed later by the group.

This web page shows that my laptop has the ability to burn dual layered DVD's. I called Tech Support and was told that it wouldn't. I intend to purchase a package of dual layered DVD's and attempt to copy the video that Matt shot (which I enjoy tremendously, thank you very much)
. If that works, Jason ,then if you were able to email me the edited work or put it on a flash drive, then perhaps I could reproduce it.

Yeah, those should work. We could do that, Wayne, by transferring the files to a flash drive. My only concern is if your computer can read the video files as I will be exporting them as Quicktime files. I have tried Windows Media Player files, and every time Final Cut Express only exports thirty seconds and .avi files look like crap. The good news is that you can download Quicktime for free at Apple's website, so it should not be too big of an issue. How about you purchase the dual-layer DVDs, I will get an edited product to you before the month is out, and then you can burn the discs? I am sure we can reimburse you once we get the money from the cast and crew for the DVDs.

Edit: I just talked to Jesse and he said his lappy can burn dual-layered discs, so I think we will use his lappy as he has a Mac, as do I, so there will not be any file issues.

Also, for the price, Jesse said it should hinge on the sound quality first, and the sound is good and the visual quality is good for each format, so I think we could go ahead and charge $8. Wayne, can you get a list of names with addresses and the moneys this weekend for all of those in the cast and crew who want a DVD? That would be most appreciated. Feel free to give the cast and crew my email and phone number so they can contact me with any questions or concerns about the DVDs.

I almost forgot! I will try to get it all edited by the end of this month. I get back on the 23rd, although it will be late and I will be dead tired. I should be working on my externship quite a lot, as well, but I can work around that. I will keep the group posted.

Ironically, porn is apparently quite profitable.

Would these do (or a Freddie's equivalent)? I can purchase them & be reimbursed later by the group.

I did some research and found Verbatim discs are apparently the most reliable brand and I found rates which come out to $1 a disc. I also found DVD cases and disc labels for a very reasonable rate, all on Amazon, all with free shipping on orders over $25 (which ours would be). I can make these purchases myself (as I will also be helping assemble the finished product), with the Group's approval to reimburse me.

As Jason mentioned, he is using a Mac, so I will take the ready-to-burn file(s) off his hands and burn them on my Mac. I have 2 Macs, actually, so I may be able to do double duty to get them out that much faster.

I will be at the Thursday show to film, try to make the Saturday show...and possibly the Sunday show depending what my schedule permits. I will also take some stills with my SLR.

I will have Jason's HD camera with me. For tomorrow's show, I will likely reshoot some of the vantage of the DV camera so we can replace that footage with higher quality footage. Meanwhile I will be watching the show to see what close-ups/pans I will want to shoot at the next performance I can attend (I work Friday night). This works well as the closer shots should be during the best performances.

After talking with Jason and doing some research, I do believe $8 is a fair selling point. This will include the disc itself with label, DVD case and an insert in the jacket of the DVD case.

Wayne, if you could pass the word on, we would like to collect sales by the end of the performance run on Sunday. I will be present to take sales and names/addresses. I will likely personally deliver the discs and ask the Group to reimburse my gas as I believe it will be much more cost effective than mailing them. My time I donate to the Group.

Just a heads up, the performance is on Friday, not tomorrow.

No problem...it's a good thing, because I can not make the Friday show.

...and just to triple check, you shot the HD camera set up on the left side of the theater from the audience's perspective, correct? I don't want to waste a night recapturing in HD what you've already got.

Yeah, I got footage with the HD camera on the left from the audience's perspective.

I almost have the first performance captured from the tapes. I have about 25 minutes on the last two tapes to get and that will be done with the first performance. I will probably not get to the second performance until I get back from Spokane, though, but we shall see.
